Property Description
They call it Yankeetown. But it should be called "Old Florida Town". The moment you head west on Hwy 40, you will see what I mean, and probably agree with me. Yankeetown is a self-proclaimed "small village that represents a slice of serene Old-Florida". Oak-draped trees, historic cracker-style homes, commercial and recreational fishing, and drivers who still wave at you as you pass them, are just some of what you will find here. You can look, but you probably won't find a closer resemblance to, "True Old Florida", than you will here in Yankeetown. Settled in 1923, and situated along the banks of the Withlacoochee River, almost every aspect of life here revolves around wildlife and nature. I once took a 4-hour kayak trip on the Withlachoochee River. To this day, I feel like I was on a National Geographic trip. As a lifelong Floridian, I'd never experienced the "blackwater river" before. Well, let me tell you. Tarpons, otters, alligators, herons, manatees, dolphins, eagles, hawks, and more were seen on that fateful 3-hour tour. Unlike the S.S. Minnow, we made it to our destination, and my opinion of Yankeetown and the River was forever changed. As if the location wasn't enough to move you, the home and property here are just as interesting. This custom home was built by and continues to be owned by the original family. There aren't a lot of homes of this kind, with yards as big as this one in the area. 4.4 acres of oak-dotted, fenced, and cross-fenced land, complete with a man-made pond. The property is surrounded by acres, and acres of uninterrupted land, as well as the Gulf Hammock Preserve to the North. Deer and turkey run the lands as if they own it. The owner has a nice chicken coop and fenced-off area with about 7 laying hens you could inherit if you want. If privacy is what you strive for, you can get it here. The home was not affected by the flooding due to Helene. This description was written by a human who has been in the home, knows the area, and can speak intelligently about them both.
